Cone McCaslin of SUM 41

This week we chat with Cone McCaslin of SUM 41.  Shaner was also born in 1980, as the rest of the band was, and went to Pickering High School, just around the corner from SUM 41, as we all grew up in the same local indie punk scene.  Here’s a bit what we chatted about.

We start off the conversation with his chat with his Mother on Cone’s Cave how she know everything that goes on, through all the magazines that are published..   and yes..  Shaner wants to have his Mom on our show, to do the same now!

We chat about all the SUM license plates floating around Ontario, and who owns which ones.

Lyrics…  who writes what..  do the bands all agree on lyrics?  When it comes to Trump, and parents, and leaving home.

And since it’s a Punk Rock Dadcast…  we talk kids… and being a dad and being on the road..  How do you go on a 18 month tour, and missing out on your kids milestones?  That must be so hard.  Does your wife take care of everything?  Do you have family to help?  Do you hire help?

So..   you wanna call it quits..  but you still want more.  But lets talk Congo!!  That’s pretty crazy.  We chat with Cone about his own Congo experience.

Recently Dave and Sum 41 all gathered for the Punk Rock Museum in Vegas..  and Johnny and Shaner have been shooting around the idea of a pop up Punk Rock Durham Region Museum.  From the Punk Rock scene from the late 90’s to early 2000s.   We also talked about this with Will McQuirk in Episode One of Season Two, from Kopps Records.  Here’s SUM 41 at The Punk Rock Museum in Vegas with NOFX!!

Let’s roll back again to early days!

Cone, remembers bands he played with such as Bombs over Providence, Protest The Hero, Closet Monster, TOE (Cauterize), Five Knuckle Shuffle, Self Serve and more!

Wanna find out how public transportation is between Toronto and LA?  Hear Cone’s thoughts!  I think Shaner would agree.

We chat about Shane Told from Silverstein who was a recent guest on Cone’s Cave on 94.9 The Rock.  And the death of the Drummer of Bayside.  We get a bit into that.

And, really….   with all these bands coming to an end..  such as Sum41, Blink 182, and NOFX….    Hear Cones own thoughts on this.

Thanks for listening.

And you can catch Cone on Cone’s Cave every Sunday night at 7pm EST on 94.9 The Rock at www.therock.fm
